This guide will list all the character classes, their usual weapon specialties, and how to unlock each class.
Introduction & Disclaimer
Concerning the “usual specialties”: These specialties are not set in stone, and are based on the first individual of that class when it is initially unlocked. Each class has a list of individuals, some of which can have different weapon and spell specialties than the ones listed in the table. Another thing to note is that once you select a class to be Emperor, then the Emperor’s own skill levels will be copied over for all subsequent non-Emperors of that class.
Class Table
Defeating the Gel Matter in the Fiends’ Cloister and reporting back to Master Dragon
OR
If you defeated the Crawlers in the Fiends’ Cloister, defeat Master Dragon in a duel, then make a Martial Artist the emperor (can only be done by replacing a dead emperor?)
OR
Complete the quest “Garon’s Rebellion”
Quest Specifics
“A Problem of Succession” becomes available after completing “Liberating the Canal Fortress”. If you have a time skip, die, abdicate, or leave Cumberland during any of the choice prompts in this quest, it will fail, and the follow-up quest “The Fall of Cumberland” will become available.
This quest can only be completed with a male Emperor, and must be done in the same generation as when you start watching the dancer’s performances. If you have a time skip, die, or abdicate during this quest, it will fail, and you will be locked out of unlocking Dancer (and possibly Nereid as well) for the current playthrough. If you complete this quest as the Final Emperor, the game will end and you will be returned to the title screen.
To force the corsairs to join the Empire, you must either:
1. Take the land route through Cape Chalier
2. Fight the corsair crew in Mobelm and steal their ship to pass through the Waterway Maze
This will unlock the Corsair class, but once the “Garon’s Rebellion” quest begins, Corsair will become temporarily unavailable until this quest is completed.
This quest is unlocked by speaking to the bartender in Yuyan after the Mole Den is repopulated. You will be unable to speak to the bartender if you have progressed the main quest in Yauda to the point where the Floating Castle appears and is floating over Yuyan. In that event, you must either:
1. Wait for a time skip so the Floating Castle will move to a location other than Yuyan
2. Complete the main Yauda quest by defeating Wagnas (reach the Floating Castle using Hiraga’s machine)
You can only complete one of these two quests per playthrough. Completing “The Volcano’s Eruption” will unlock the Salamander class. If you have a time skip, die, or abdicate before completing this quest, it will fail and the volcano will erupt.
If the volcano erupts, a new location, the Sunken Island, will appear. After completing this dungeon and defeating the Sorcerer, your current Emperor will be forced to abdicate. You can then go to Tsukijima and speak to Seimei to finish “Tsukijima’s Grimoire of Eld” and unlock the Diviner class.
