This guide is for those interested in maximizing their Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster experience. As a long-time Steam player, I have finally created my first guide to share my knowledge with fellow gamers. I have carefully gathered all the necessary information, and if you notice any errors, please don’t hesitate to let me know. Let’s dive in and discover the top items favored by DRDR survivors.
Introduction
For new players, this could be important as you don’t want your survivors to simply defect as you head back to the safe house.
I will tell you now as I beaten the original game and this remaster that don’t bother to even fill in as long you know how to keep the survivors alive in their escorts back to the security Room.
With that said let me explain how this mechanic works.
So what does the Favorite Items do?
If you didn’t encounter the person with some of the hidden survivors that are not found via transmitter then their portrait will not appear until then.
As soon as you have a Survivor join you, only the first slot will reveal itself. You can unlock the other slots if you happen to have the item in your inventory or the survivor will be happy as you escort them back. A screen will show the item whether food or weapon will indicate that it is their favorite. If you give one of their favorites, the survivor will voice out there approval (it isn’t subtitled though).
Note: Much like the original game it is based on:
- Only Males and few females has a weapon item.
- Majority of females and injured survivors will have all three foods only.
Bonuses
- One bonus of the favorite items is that if you give a survivor their favorite food, the other two slots will fill in the notebook, it doesn’t work with weapons.
- Another bonus is that if you give them any favorite food their health will fill up completely. You can even give them their favorite when their health bar is full.
- If you give any able survivor their favorite Weapon they will be able to attack very quickly and somehow One Hit Kill the zombie if they attack even joke weapons or throwables
- This ties to the affinity System, if you have a Happy survivor as indicated by the Blue Smile in the top right of the screen when looking at your wristwatch then they will be able to help a fellow survivor who is in trouble for example: Yuu who’s favorite weapon is a Baseball Bat will help Shinji if he is grabbed by a zombie even if you have given them a waypoint.
With that being said I will spoil you on what is each Survivors favorite item:

Final Thoughts
The good news is that you don’t have to find all the favorites in one run as the list actually carries over in your next playthrough.
If you ask me about the favorite items, is that it isnt a big game changer unless you want survivors that are originally pathetic like Aaron and Gordon to not act cowardly and will defend themselves during their escorts.
In the end, it isnt worth it to unlock the favorite items as you have to go out of your way to even get these as some foods like Oranges and Japanese Radish are only found in the supermarket. The same can apply to weapons like the Fireaxe can only be found in the Crislip’s, etc.
You wont have any issues with the day 1 survivors items as most do have the food and weapons found along the locations where they are like apples, snacks, orange juices, coffee creamers and pies. Day 2 and 3 survivors are a toss up as some require you to go to the supermarket or food court, and/or use the ovens to cook foods like the Pizza and Steak.
Overall it is an interesting mechanic but doesn’t do anything different as soon as you escort then back into the safe house as they will remain until whatever ending you pick. It would be cool if the survivors can be your backup like Dead Rising 3 but the survivor limit mechanic still exists.
