Mega Man X – Upgrade Capsules
Requirements: None
This is the First Armor Upgrade Capsule in the game, It is located in the Chill Penguin stage as you reach the top of the underground area, can’t miss it. Collect it and you will gain the Dash ability.
Requirements: Leg Upgrade
Just after the Moving Platforms with the Flame Cannons is a pillar you need to climb, drop down the opposite side, and do a Dash Jump to a outcropping with a group of explosives blocking off a room on the other side. The Upgrade Capsule is located just inside. Use it to obtain the ability to break certain blocks with your head from below.
Requirements: Leg Upgrade, & Helmet Upgrade
Midway through the stage you will see a bunch of Blocks in the ceiling overhead leading upward, Dash Jump to them from the nearby platform and use the Boots, and Helmet Upgrades to break the blocks and climb upward where the Upgrade Capsule is tucked away
Requirements: Leg Upgrade
Partway through the stage you will come to a Cave, just before entering it Dash Jump to the outer wall above the entrance and climb up to an area above it, head to the right a bit and you will suddenly become trapped by a rockfall, and a Sub-Boss will spawn in. Heavily armored the RT-55J’s head is its only weak point. Destroy it and you will be rewarded with an Upgrade Capsule containing Armor that will cut your damage by half.
Requirements: All Upgrades, Sub-Tanks, and Heart Tanks
The Hadoken is a Street Fighter Easter Egg that can be obtained in the Mega Man X game by first collecting the 4 Armor Upgrades from each of the 4 Upgrade Capsules, all 8 Heart Tanks from each of the 8 Maverick Stages, and the 4 Available Sub-Tanks in the game. Once you have all of these head into the Armored Armadillo Stage and seek out the ledge just above the Boss Gate at the end of the stage. The 5th Upgrade Capsule has a slight chance to spawn there, if its not present, die, or restart the stage, then go back and check the ledge again.
Mega Man X – Sub-Tanks
Requirements: None
Just after climbing the Moving Platforms on the Rails, You will notice a Cannon Maverick on an Pillar-like Elevator going up and down. Destroy the Maverick, then ride the Elevator to the top of the Control Tower, break the glass, the Sub-Tank is just past a Maverick inside the Tower.
Requirements: Leg Upgrade
Just after the Armor Upgrade Capsule in this stage is a climbing segment heading upward with a bunch of Mavericks With Pickaxes, get to the top, then head back toward the left, until you find a 1-Up Life, from there Dash Jump further left to a wall, the Sub-Tank is located behind some Blocks in the wall.
Requirements: None
Immediately after the first drop you will come to a Mole Borer that will start tunneling through the walls behind you. Get behind the Mole Borer and head back to where it started chasing you, the Sub-Tank is just behind the area where the Mole Borer first appeared, take advantage of the newly dug hole in the wall, and grab the Sub-Tank.
Requirements: Boomerang Cutter
Almost immediately after starting the Stage, You will come to a pair of Ladders serving as a crossroads, take the Ladder heading down, eventually coming across the Sub-Tank seemingly unobtainable just behind a Wall. You will need use the Boomerang Cutter to grab it from a distance, Jump, & hold down when you fire so that your in the air and the shot does a downward curve instead of an upward curve and catches the Sub-Tank
Mega Man X – Heart Tanks
Requirements: LegUpgrade
The Heart Tank is immediately above the starting point in the level, just ahead is some Moving Platforms on Rails, ride these to the top and then Dash Jump toward the left to reach it.
Requirements: Leg Upgrade
After the Thunder Slimer, you will reach an area where, just after a Turtle Maverick, you need to start heading downward, the Heart Tank is on a ledge just above. You will need to use a Dash Wall Jump off the Wall below to Jump to the side of the platform the Heart Tank is on, and climb up there. The Dash Wall Jump can easily be done by holding the Button for Dash, and pressing the Jump button at the same time while Wall Climbing. Alternatively the Heart Tank can be obtained by firing Boomerang Cutter from below the ledge.
Requirements: Defeat Chill Penguin
Immediately after the Armor Upgrade Capsule, is an area with a bunch of Mavericks With Pickaxes, the Heart Tank is sitting in the Magma in the Right-Hand Corner of the area just under the platform. If you defeat Chill Penguin beforehand, the Magma will have cooled, and you can reach it easily.
Requirements: Ride Armor, & Fire Wave
Once you have the Ride Armor just past the first Igloo, is a Cave, instead of heading through the cave head over it, by Jumping in the Ride Armor, then Ejecting to reach the ledge above. Once on the upper area, immediately is another Igloo, destroy it with the Fire Wave, & the Heart Tank is inside.

Immediately after the 2nd drop another Mole Borer will start tunneling through the walls ahead, destroy it before it passes under the Heart Tank then climb up the wall and grab it.
Requirements: None
Shortly after destroying the second Anglerge you will come across several devices that generate upward water currents, go a bit further until you see bombs falling from above, use the nearby current to climb upwards and jump out of the water onto Cruiziler then sink it, and once it falls into the sea, it should take out the ground below, revealing a secret path, head through the newly revealed room, defeat the Utuboros being careful of the spikes in the room, then proceed to the next room, & the Heart Tank is yours.
Requirements: Boomerang Cutter
This Heart Tank is very hard to miss, unfortunately you won’t be able to get it the first time through the stage. After climbing the outside of the Tower the Heart Tank is located on a ledge just above the entance heading back inside the Tower, you will need to use the Boomerang Cutter to grab it from a distance.
Requirements: Leg Upgrade, Defeat Launch Octopus
In order to obtain the Heart Tank for this you will first need to beat the Launch Octopus stage, once completed Sting Chameleon’s stage will become flooded. Once you reach a Cave head down a pit just left of the Cave Entrance at the bottom break the blocks on your right then Dash Jump taking advantage of the underwater physics to reach the Heart Tank sitting on a ledge just off screen to your right.
Mega Man X – Achievements
This one is fairly straight forward basically you just need to defeat your first boss while playing Megaman X. I recommend Chill Penguin to start with as he is probably the easiest for New Players.
Beat the Final Boss in the Mega Man X game. The achievement should pop-up as soon as the Final Boss is beaten.
Beat the entire Mega Man X game without turning on Rookie Hunter Mode. The Achievement should pop-up a minute or so after the credits.
First collect the X-Buster Upgrade from the Upgrade Capsule in the Flame Mammoth’s stage, the score the final hit on a boss with a Fully Charged X-Buster Shot.
Hit Armored Armadillo with the Electric Spark when he isn’t curled up in a ball. The Electric Spark should knock his armor clean off if done correctly.
Hit Flame Mammoth with Boomerang Cutter a few times and it should sever the trunk from his face.
This is pretty straightforward head into ether Chill Penguin’s or Sting Chameleon’s stage and destroy an enemy piloting a Ride Armor.
Collect all 8 Heart Tanks in Mega Man X, refer to the Mega Man X – Heart Tanks Sub-Section of this guide for the locations of all 8 Heart Tanks

Requirements: Spin Wheel
Just after the Heart Tank is a path heading down, instead of following the path jump across to a ledge on the other side, once there destroy a series of blocks with the Spin Wheel. the Upgrade Capsule is located in a small room just past the blocks. With the new upgrade you will be able to dash left or right once while in midair.
Requirements: Spin Wheel
Just after you start the level, as you enter the facility you will come to an area where the ceiling is magnetic, and increases your jump height. Pay close attention as soon as the ceiling is no longer magnetic just after the red steel beam in the foreground dig with the Spin Wheel to reveal the ground is weak, and a hole can be dug. The Upgrade Capsule is at the bottom. This upgrade should add the Giga Crush to your available weapons, with it taking damage will build up power, once full, a powerful attack can be unleashed.
Requirements: Leg Upgrade
At the start of the stage you will start heading down deeper into the level, the just above the first drop is a pathway up to the Upgrade Capsule. In order to reach it you need to slide down the tiny bit of wall on the left, then as soon as you drop off, use the Air Dash to transfer to the wall further left. Climb up the wall, and the Upgrade Capsule will be on your right. This upgrade will let you shoot off two charged X-Buster shots or combine them for one powerful shot. You will also gain the ability to charge special weapons.
Requirements: None
Immediately after defeating Magna Quartz you will slide down a slope followed by a chunk of crystal behind you. Just afterward is a large pit, slide down to the bottom to find a path in the left wall of the pit. The Upgrade Capsule is at the end of that path with it you will obtain the Scanner Upgrade that can be used to uncover hidden secrets.
Requirements: All Upgrades, Heart Tanks & Sub-Tanks
In Order to obtain this upgrade you will need to collect all the other 4 Upgrades from the other Upgrade Capsules, all 8 Heart Tanks and, All 4 Sub-Tanks.[/b] From there head to X-Hunter Stage 3, and midway through you will encounter a set of two ladders with one heading down and the other heading up. Lure one of the Bats over from the left, then use Crystal Hunter on it and use it as a platform to reach the ladder above and climb up. From there things get really difficult, navigate the spikes with Air Dash, and Charged Speed Burner until you reach a drop. Slide down the left wall until you reach a hidden hole in the wall and proceed inside. As long as you have collected everything the final Upgrade Capsule containing the Shoryuken will be inside the hidden, and difficult to reach room.
Mega Man X2 – Sub Tanks
Requirements: None
Immediately after starting the level you will need to climb a wall, as you are climbing a flying beetle droid will come down from above. Hop on top of it and get it to fly all the way up and once there, jump and climb to the ledge on your left and grab the Sub-Tank.
Requirements: Bubble Splash, & X-Buster Upgrade
Partway though the stage you will come to a wall with an Energy Capsule in a cave on the other side, like the picture above, climb the wall, then charge up the Bubble Splash, and use it. Proceed to jump to a wall left and above you, and climb to the waters surface. From there hop along the water surface under the Sub-Tank until you can jump out of the water, climb up, and grab it.
Requirements: Speed Burner, X-Buster Upgrade, & Leg Upgrade
In the area immediately following the area with the large falling blocks right before fighting Chop Register is a pathway up, however its nearly impossible to reach, head back left towards the large blocks, then get to the highest ground, and charge the Speed Burner, jump right, use the Air Dash at the height of your jump, then use Speed Burner without losing any height. If successful you should be able to cover the distance, grab the wall, climb up, and obtain the hidden Sub-Tank.
Requirements: Leg Upgrade
Not far from the start of the stage you will enter into a large open area with some tricky platforms and lots of spikes below them. Climb onto the first platform, then Air Dash to the left wall of the room and climb to the top, then proceed across the platforms to the right to find the Sub-Tank sitting at the top of the room.
Mega Man X2 – Heart Tanks
Requirements: None
Early on in the level you will come to a climbing section, as soon as you enter the area the Volcano will begin to erupt. As you climb the Heart Tank will be in plain view, unfortunately a Maverick will attempt to block it off. Destroy the Maverick, and be quick about grabbing the Heart Tank.
Requirements: Leg Upgrade, X-Buster, & Speed Burner
This Heart Tank is just after you ditch the Ride Armor in plain sight, head to the right just a bit to get to higher ground, Charge Up Speed Burner, then jump, and at the height of your jump use the Air Dash, and before the dash ends use Speed Burner to grab the wall just above the spikes. Climb up the wall quickly and the Heart Tank is yours. This could take several tries to manage this.
Requirements: Splash Bubble, & X-Buster Upgrade
As your chasing Sea Canthller it will open a gate in the ground and start heading down, instead of following it jump right to the wall on the other side, and climb the wall. From the top of the wall charge up the Bubble Splash and use it. Slide down the wall a bit then use a Dash Wall Jump to jump to a moving platform on your left from there you can climb up and get the Heart Tank.
Requirements: Speed Burner, X-Buster Upgrade, & Leg Upgrade
In order to get the Heart Tank you will need to slip past the first set of searchlights without tripping off the alarm, it is recommended you have the Air Dash Upgrade for this part. Immediately following the first set of searchlights you will notice a path up with a block on the ceiling on the left hand side, if you tripped the alarm the block will fall to the ground, if you didn’t trip the alarm, continue right get to higher ground and start charging Speed Burner. Jump back to the left then use Speed Burner to dash to the block, and climb up to the Heart Tank.

Just as you start the stage freeze the Shield Maverick with the Crystal Hunter and use him as a platform to jump to the roof with an Air Dash, at the top is an Extra Life, and a Heart Tank.
Requirements: X-Buster Upgrade, Leg Upgrade, & Speed Burner
Just after the Hoverbike Section of the stage you will enter the main facility, just before dropping down to a lower level, you will notice an area with lots of spikes just to the right, the Heart Tank is located on the far right of these spikes, plainly visible from below. There are two ways to get this, one by riding the Hoverbike into the facility and over the spikes, the other is to use an Air Dash, and a fully charged Speed Burner to land on the Heart Tank, though it’ll cost a life.
Requirements: None
Right at the start of the level climb the left wall, the Heart Tank is hidden inside the wall.
Requirements: Strike Chain
Once you grab the Ride Armor, head back left a bit, and drop down the nearby pit being careful of the hole at the bottom, land on solid ground just to the left. Have the Strike Chain ready then use the Ride Armor to Dash Jump left and Hover as far as possible before Ejecting and grabbing the wall with the Strike Chain and climbing up to the Heart Tank on the ledge.
Mega Man X2 – Zero Parts
In this Subsection of the Guide i will detail the locations for each of the 8 X-Hunter Gates hidden in each of the 8 Maverick Stages in the game, and how to reach them.
Requirements: None
This one is really easy to find, the X-Hunter Gate is located at the very top of the second elevator shaft, you just have to ride the platform all the way up. At the top is a bunch of spikes waiting for you above, drop off before hitting them and head straight for the door.
Requirements: None
Early on in the stage you will come across Sea Canthller in order to get to the X-Hunter Gate you will need to ether race or destroy Sea Canthller before reaching the gate at the end of the underwater area. Once you reach the gate instead of heading through Dash Jump to the wall off to the left, and climb all the way up. As long as Sea Canthller hasn’t docked the X-Hunter Gate should be accessible at the very top.
Requirements: None
After the Volcano erupts and you are safely beyond it, you will come to a bunch of pillars that will sink into the magma below, cross the to the other side and climb the wall. A second beetle droid should appear from above. Head to the top of the wall, then get the beetle to smash against a breakable wall, then head inside and jump up to the hidden X-Hunter Gate
Requirements: None
Just after the first the first Old Robot you will come to a ladder heading down. as soon as you start climbing downwards you will notice a Maverick with a shield guarding a ledge with a path behind him. get to the left wall, destroy the Shield Maverick, and do a Dash Wall Jump to the ledge he was on and proceed to the X-Hunter Gate. Alternatively using an Air Dash, or fully charged Speed Burner can get you to the ledge much easier.
Requirements:None
After the second set of searchlights you will come to a big open room where small blocks will fall from above, quickly dash all the way to the other side of the room to find the X-Hunter Gate/u] and enter it before the falling blocks barricade the door making it impossible to enter.
Requirements: Ride Armor
Once you have the Ride Armor continue right and drop down a large hole smashing the ground below. Break the two crystal blocks and ditch the Ride Armor briefly and continue right until a chunk of crystal comes loose and slides down the path. Quickly take cover and once the path is clear go back and grab the Ride Armor before continuing forward now that the path is clear. Just past where the Crystal Chunk came loose is a ladder, continue right to higher ground then dash jump back left with the Ride Armor to the platform above the ladder. Proceed to smash the Crystal Blocks on the left side, and climb up the other side by jumping out of the Ride Armor. The X-Hunter Gate is located at the top.

Play through Magna Centipede’s Stage without getting spotted by the searchlights. Of note after facing Raider Killer, the alarms will trigger even if you didn’t get spotted by the searchlights earlier in the stage so don’t worry about the alarms past that point. Also you will also need to defeat Magna Centipede on the same attempt, so you won’t be able to get it if you have already beaten him beforehand. Ideally you should have the Air Dash Upgrade, and it may take quite a few tries to memorize it, but its fairly straightforward.
Land the finishing blow on Wire Sponge with the Sonic Slicer.
While Morph Moth is in his cocoon phase don’t attack, and wait it out, he will slowly get bigger, and eventually the metamorphosis will complete itself and be awarded the achievement so as long as you haven’t done any damage yet.
Please refer to the Mega Man X2 – Upgrade Capsules Subsection of this guide for the locations of all the Upgrade Capsules in the game
Collect all 3 of Zero’s Parts before defeating the 8 Boss Mavericks, then play through X-Hunter Stage 5. See the Mega Man X2 – Zero Parts Subsection of this guide for help locating them.
First you will need to obtain the Giga Crush Upgrade from the Upgrade Capsule in Morph Moth’s Stage. Once done, build up a charge by taking enough damage, then proceed to one of the 8 Maverick Bosses, and weaken them until they are low on health. Once the boss’s health is sufficiently low deal the last hit with the Giga Crush.
You will need both the Silk Shot, and the Dual X-Buster Upgrades once you have them head to Bubble Crab’s Stage. Once you encounter Sea Canthller, it’ll open a gate leading downward, slide down the leftside wall, and head into a hidden room. Charge up your Silk Shot inside this room and it’ll pick up lots of energy, and grant the achievement. This is also a good way to fill Sub-Tanks quickly.
You have to obtain the Shoryuken in the Mega Man X2 game. Please refer to the Mega Man X2 – Upgrade Capsules Subsection of this guide for the locations, requirements, & strategies to locating the Shoryuken.

Mega Man X4 – Achievements
In order to get this Achievement you must first grab the Ride Armor earlier in the stage and bring it with you to the end when fighting Magma Dragoon. I would suggest exiting the Ride Armor in the center area when the fight begins, and to use Double Cyclone until the Boss is low on health, getting back into the Ride Armor only to score the final few hits. This is effective because the Ride Armor is immune to damage when you aren’t in it.
You have to obtain all four armor upgrades from each of Dr. Light’s Upgrade Capsules in the Mega Man X4 game. Please refer to the Mega Man X4 – Upgrade Capsules Subsection of this guide for the locations, requirements, & strategies to locating the four Upgrade Capsules.
First you will need to obtain the Armor Upgrade for an Upgrade Capsule in Magma Dragoon’s Stage. Once you have this make sure Nova Strike is fully charged by taking damage from enemies until the Weapon Energy for it is full. From there head to any boss, weaken them until they are low on health, and then nail them with the Nova Strike for the finishing blow.
Pretty straightforward except you will need to Fire fully charged shots with the X-Buster using both of the Arm Upgrades found in Storm Owl’s Stage.
Pretty straightforward, use all of Zero’s Special Saber Techniques in one playthough of the game. Only one of note is probably Tenkuuha as you need to block an enemies shot with your Z-Saber.
In order to get this achievement you must first collect every upgrade in the game, and have defeated all 8 mavericks. From there you must fill your Sub-Tank’s & Weapon Energy Tank completely, as well as collect the Maximum of 9 Lives. To do this quickly head into the Frost Walrus’s Stage and from the stage start immediately climb up following the upper route to its end point to find all sorts of Energy, Weapon Energy, and an Extra Life. Once you have collected all of it use Escape to exit the Stage, then go back in and repeat the process until everything is full.
Defeat Sigma at the end of Mega Man X4.
Beat Mega Man X4 and watch the credits.

Legacy Collection – Tips & Tricks
The Dash Wall Jump is an advanced technique that allows the player to get extra speed & distance when jumping off a wall, its very useful when fighting Wheel Gator, or Climbing in X-Hunter Stage 1, in Mega Man X2, and can be used to obtain a Heart Tank in Spark Mandrill’s Stage in Mega Man X.
The Dash Wall Jump can easily be done by holding the Dash Button, then Jumping while sliding down a wall. If you are having difficulty try remapping the Dash Button to the L or R Buttons, this should make it much easier.
Whenever you take Damage for a brief time afterwards you will become Invincible to nearly all forms of damage, this even protects you from Instant Death Hazards like Spikes and Lava and can be used to stand on them for a very short time and can give you a chance to recover. Just make sure your not still standing on any Hazards when your Invulnerability runs out.
Its possible to Air Dash after sliding off a wall, this is used to get several upgrades, including the Upgrade Capsule in Wheel Gator’s Stage in Mega Man X2.
In Mega Man X2, & Mega Man X3 its possible to jump off the surface of any water. The timing for this can be a bit tricky, but its used to get a number of difficult to reach upgrades impossible to reach otherwise. In the case of Mega Man X2 you will first need to have the Bubble Splash Weapon, & the X-Buster Upgrade as you will need to use a fully charged Bubble Splash in order to Jump On Water, thankfully in Mega Man X3 this can be done from the get-go, and you won’t need any upgrades to do so. It can be utilized to obtain a Sub-Tank in Bubble Crab’s Stage in Mega Man X2, and a Upgrade in Toxic Seahorse’s Stage in Mega Man X3.
You will need both the Silk Shot, and the X-Buster Upgrades once you have them head to Bubble Crab’s Stage. Once you encounter Sea Canthller, it’ll open a gate leading downward, slide down the leftside wall, and head into a hidden room. Charge up your Silk Shot inside this room and it’ll pick up lots of energy, and can be done repeatedly by Charging up the Silk Shot again. This is the fastest way to fill all 4 Sub-Tanks.
Sub-Tanks can quickly be recharged in Mega Man X3 if you have the Head Chip, or the Hyper Chip. They will refill automatically if you leave the game idle unpaused.
Head into Frost Walrus’s Stage and from the start climb up the wall and follow the path at the top, up here there is tons of Health, Weapon Energy pickups as well as an Extra Life. Once you have collected everything Escape the stage and return to repeat the process until your Energy Tanks are full.
In Mega Man X3 Bit,Byte, and Vile MK-III can be destroyed early if you use a Special Weapon they are weak when landing the final blow, this changes the bosses found in Doppler’s Lab and destroying Vile MK-III is an important step when attempting to to obtain Zero’s Saber. Vile MK-III in particular can be found at the start of Volt Catfish’s Stage. There is an elevator leading down that activates after destroying 2 Boss Mavericks.
In Mega Man X4 Highlight X on the Character Select Screen on the Keyboard press the A Key twice, Left Arrow Key 6 times, then hold D & V Keys until the game starts, finally Press the Space Key. This will unlock the Ultimate Armor which will be granted to X when he visits one of Dr. Light’s Upgrade Capsules.
In Mega Man X4 Highlight Zero on the Character Select Screen then on the Keyboard hold C and press the Right Arrow Key 6 Times then release C, hold the A Key until the game starts, finally press the Space Key. This will unlock the more powerful Black Zero.
