“Curious about trying out different Game Profile items on Steam before purchasing them? You can easily preview how they look in your current profile by making a simple code change. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it.”
Preliminary Thoughts
This guide is only for mixing elements together before actually buying them. It won’t give them for free.
Any changes made with this method won’t be saved in your current profile.
With that out of the way…
#1: Look for your prefered Game Profile
I’ll use Mullet Mad Jack’s Game Profile as an example.
If you’re inside the Steam App, click on the Link icon to the right of the name and paste that on your browser.
If you’re on the already website, stay there.
Now click “Open Preview in a New Tab” and it’ll show your profile or another one with that Game Profile applied.
On another tab you’ll need to open your profile.
Next we’ll apply the certain element we want in our profile.
#2-1: Change the Theme/Gradient
On your profile’s page, press Ctrl+Shift+”i” or Right click -> Inspect.
To your right will appear the Elements pannel.
Click anywhere inside and then press Ctrl+F. A textbox will appear. We’ll use this one to look for any element we want to replace.
Type “GameProfileTheme”. Go to the right of the textbox and click on the downward arrow.
It’ll jump to the code where you’ll see your current gradient/theme.
We’ll do the same process with the Game Profile.
Now, on the Game Profile, double click on the selected “range”. Copy its contents, go to your profile, double click there too, paste them and press Enter.
That’s how your profile will look with that gradient/theme.
#2-2: Change the Animated Avatar and Avatar Frame
If you want to check the Animated Avatar in your profile, it’s below the search result:
Repeat the same with your profile.
Copy the link in the Game Profile and paste it on your own.
(It’s animated, I swear)
For the frame, go back to the Game Profile and open the “profile_avatar_frame” by clicking on the triangle at its side.
Then do the same thing as with the avatar, copy and paste.
What about the Mini-Profile Background?
Everytime you hover over your avatar to see the Mini-Profile, it loads the original one.
If anyone has a solution, let me know in the comments and I’ll update this section.
If you’re wondering my process, I’ll still leave it here but remember that it seemingly changes nothing:
Make sure to hover your mouse over both Avatars, the game profile one and yours.
Now type “miniprofile_nameplate” and go to the second option.
Open it and copy both sources, the “.webm” and “.mp4” links.
Paste it on your profile as before and wonder why it changed nothing 😛
What about the Profile Background?
Back to the textbox, type “profile_animated_background”.
Open it and the next one too.
Now, if we delete “profile_animated_background” completely, the background will disappear. But even if we change the “poster” and both “src”, the background won’t change.
Remember I’m not a web developer, so I have no clue what would be the solution. Leave it in the comments if you find it.
Closing Thoughts
Anyway, I hope this guide helped you a little.
