Welcome to the Serious Sam: Tormental Achievement Guide! In this guide, we will be covering all of the achievements in the game and how to unlock them. All achievements are related to in-game challenges that can be found by talking to various NPCs in “Frontal Lobe”. Once you complete a challenge, go back to the NPC for your reward. Some achievements require collecting a certain amount of weapons or powers, so be prepared to focus on those during your gameplay. For any missing information, please leave a comment and we will update the guide accordingly. Keep in mind that the higher the level of an item, the better it will perform. More screenshots and gameplay tips will be added in the coming days, so stay tuned for the complete guide. Let’s get started!
Achievements – part 1
Tombtorial
Raid the tombs of the pyramid.
Unless you say “No” here or have it set to “Always”, you should get this achievement after completing the tutorial level.
Get Netty or die trying
Rescue Netricsa
She can be randomly found in “Mental Woods”, locked away behind a door. Can’t remember how many keys you need to get access to her.
Mental Woods
Complete the mental woods
Self explanatory, finish the mentioned level.
Enter the vault
Discover vault
This is the vault, here already unlocked. You will get the key to unlock it, after you beat the first boss. After it is unlocked, you can get there from “Frontal Lobe” any time but you also get there automatically after every successful run.
Key to success
Bring the first key back to the keymaster
For every completed challenge but also for other things (not sure though for what exactly) you get a key as shown here. Bring the first one back to the keymaster to get this one. Bringing back keys unlockes so called “thoughts” which are weapons, items and so on.
First blood
Hunt down one monster
The first time you kill an emeny, it will be added to the “enemy list”. That alone does not do it. You have to get a certain amount of kills for every enemy, then you have “more information” on that enemy. Only when that is done, the monster counts as “hunted down”. Valid for all “hunt down monster” achievements. The 30 and 45 will take a while.
Amateur Hunter
Hunt down 10 monsters
Pro Hunter
Hunt down 20 monsters
Berserk
Hunt down 30 monsters
The Falcon
Hunt down 45 monsters
Sea of thoughts
Complete the sea of thoughts
Self explanatory, finish the mentioned level.
Who let the bombs out
Rescue bomb
“Bomb” can be randomly found in “Sea of thoughts”, also locked away. Can’t remember how many keys you need.
Brainstorm goodeye
Defeat brainstorm in 45 seconds
The 2nd boss of the game and you will probably get this automatically if you play a while. A good character for that is “Bulb” or “Bomb”. With those you don’t need luck with good serious weapons or upgrades, they can take care of Brainstorm in that time easily. There are also certain environments that can spawn that can massively help with that, e.g. “spikes”.
Nightmare Caves
Complete the nightmare caves
Self explanatory, finish the mentioned level.
Core Blimey
Find and equip specified powers
Cant remember what that one was about but I think you will get this pretty early in the game.
Great Combo
Combo 100 figments
Figments are those little yellow crystal like things that appear after killing an enemy. The in game currency used to buy upgrades, etc.. Can be done during normal play. Later V2 and up, you will come across many chests, that contain 100 and even much more figments. This counts towards the achievement.
Powerful Combo
Combo 250 figments
Can be done during normal play but getting 250 like that is not easy. Later V2 and up, you will come across many chests, that contain 200 and even much more figments. This counts towards the achievement. I got this one with one chest that contained exactly 250 figments.
Serious Business
Have 7 serious weapons and 9 serious weapons related powers
The serious weapons are pretty clear, I suggest you save keys and just buy enough of them. You can hope for weapons in chests, but I don’t recoomend that. Serious weapon related powers are those, you need to buy them. Spend a key on “rethink” once in a while using them will increase your chance to get as many serious weapon related powers, as soon as possible. Sine the items get expensive fast, you should get this done till items cost 1000 figments.
Could look like this. Does not matter which weapons or powers, just the total amount matters.
Here the available serious weapon related powers.
Achievements – part 2
Mr. Turtle
Have 2500 shield
Most important item for that, “Mushroom Hunting” and as may “armor upgrade items” as possible. Other recommended items: “Liquid armor”, “Barrel”. Try to not destroy the props during the fights. The chance that you either dont get to the dropped armor fast enough or take damage during the fight is very high and then you loose all that armor. Of course in every room, try to avoid taking any damage. If you can get a couple of “explosion shields” it also does not hurt since you dont loose any armor if you get hit.
From experience, if you don’t have mentioned “Mushroom Hunting” at at least L2 at end of iteration 1, it is almost impossible to get it. Avoiding damage gets harder and harder and damage also gets significantly more which makes keeping armor over 2500 very hard. On the other hand if you have the good stuff early enough, even going past 4000 armor is not a problem.
Here 2 examples of builds that got me way past 2500 armor:
Metal Hamster
Collect 13 Serious weapons
Don’t waste keys on chests (at least not the normal ones), just buy serious weapons with them. The weapons that have levels, each level counts as its own weapon. Ghostgun L1, L2 and L3 e.g. counts as 3 serious weapons. I am not sure if “Heart” counts as weapon for this one.
Weapons can be bought at this guy, very often you have to get past environmental traps to get to him.
One of my 13 serious weapons builds:
Treasure Hunter
Open 50 chests
You just need a good run for that one with chests that contain “other keys”. I am not sure if those “small chests (timed or not)” that you dont need keys for count towards it. Don’t waste keys on vending machines.
Those are the mentioned “small chests”.
A Hello to arms
Find weapons in sea area. Sadly I cant remember which weapons those were.
Another hello to arms
Find weapons in nightmare caves
You need to find 3 specific weapons, Twin Flamethrower, Homing Harpoon Gun and I can’t remember the last one.
A bright idea
Rescue Bulb
Bulb can be randomly found in “Nightmare caves”, locked away as all the others. I can’t remember how many keys you need.
Serial killer
Do several brutal kills with Sam without losing HP
You need to make 8 brutal kills with Sam without losing HP. “Liquid armor” raises your chances for this one. I am not sure if it can be done with any of the “Sam” character or if it must be “Serious Sam”.
Bulb Furry
Complete the mount fury with “Bad Bulb”.
“Bad Bulb” is not available from the start. As soon as you can, choose “Bad Bulb” and play until you finish said level.
Unexpected allience
Save Ugh-Zan Jr.
Ugh-Zan Jr. can be randomly found in “Mount Fury”, also locked away. You need 15 keys for it.
It’s not Loopus
Reach vault in iteration #1
Self explanatory, beat iteration #1/V1 once.
Still not Loopus
Reach vault in interation #2
Self explanatory, beat iteration #2/V2. This seems to be an achievement that does not have a corresponding in game challenge. At least I could not find one.
Living on the edge
Kill 111 monsters with Ghostgun
Can be either done as soon as you have the “Panic Attack” torment available (has Ghost Gun L3 as goody) or when you get the ghost gun during normal game. I got access to it after returning the 20th key so pretty late in the game. I recommend option one since you have access to that torment pretty early.
Spin me around
Open 99 Vortexes in one run
This is a Vortex and exploding bombs close enough to outer map walls, opens/spawns them. The rest is self eplanatory.
Couple of options though how to achieve this.
Option 1 – recommended:
Can be done as soon as you have the “Panic Attack” torment. There is so much exploding going on since ghost gun also explodes those outer walls, you will get it there easily. Did not know about that since it surprisingly popped during my
second try of said torment.
Option 2:
Play as bomb, try to get as many kills close to outer walls as possible and just play.
Option 3:
Play as any character and play around positioning the bombs using melee weapon.
Stop coming back
Revive 12 times in 1 run
To revive you need an item called “Ankh”. You can get it in chests or buy it at vendig machines. But there is also one other item called “Cane of Paraoh” that has a chance to spawn an Ankh piece instead of a heart.
8 Ankh pieces make one Ankh, the problem is only completing the challenge/ getting this achievement gives you access to “Cane of Paraoh”. So getting this during “normal play” is a pain.
But there is a torment “Panic attack” where you have L5 of said item from the start. I recommed this torment for this achievement. I can’t remember when the torment unlocks.
Achievements – part 3
This is bull****
Chain 12 Bombhead kills
The in my opinion only place to do this is during the “Deja Bull” boss fight. Wait for a good boss area map spawn, nothing with projectile traps, spikes, stuff like that. I recommend keeping both bulls alive. Now run around and wait till enough Bombheads have spawned. Trigger one or more and hope that they are all close enough to chain bomb. This can take a couple of tries, depending on your luck with the boss area map. Netrescia makes it a lot easier since you can use “forcefield to keep them nicely together.
Recommended “area” without any “environmental traps”
Rebel
Complete Fortress with Ugh-Zan Jr.
Can of course only be done when you have Ugh-Zan Jr. available. Choose said character and finish one loop/iteration #1.
Bumper
Reach Caves with Bomb while Mental is frazzled
The required character and also the necessary mood is not available from the start. Doing the “Frazzled” torment does not count since it is with the wrong character. If I rememeber correctly
I got the frazzled mood after returning the 19th key. Activate the mood “Frazzled”, then choose “Bomb” as character and finish first level.
Cerebral Gateway
Find mental keys
You need to return 32 keys for this achievement. Keys are granted for completing challenges, beating levels with specific characters and so on. Till today I am not sure I know all the actions/challenges, etc. that give you keys.
Why cant we be friends?
Collect all types of buddies.
The challenge says something different. First of all you have to unlock all buddies to have them available for the game (Buddy Pew unlocks pretty late). Then you need to have all available ones in one run and a total amount of 10.
Available buddies
All of them together in game
Silver Axe
Complete the mental woods with Netricsa without using guns
For controller: Deactivate the auto shoot option in settings. This will remap the defaul bindings which is pretty annoying. Remap again manually to default. Now you have default buindings again without the auto shoot. Now complete the first level just using melee and bombs. Make use of the forcefield all the time. Can take a couple of tries till you get it.
Sadist
Beat Iteration V2 while Mental is Sadistic
A tough one! The “Sadistic” mood setting can be turned on by interacting with a NPC. As the “frazzled” mood, it is not available from the beginning. If I remember correctly, I got access to this mood somewhere between returning 10 – 15 keys.
Moody
Beat iteration V3 with 9 active moods
A very though one! Activate 9 moods of your choice and beat iteration V3 like this.
Assassin
Brutal kill 30 enemies in 30 seconds
Setting this up is not easy. You def. need the “Massacre” item that allows to brutaly kill all enemies. V2 and up, you will just have to try. (One of 2 achievements I am still missing while writting this guide). Every character but “Bulb”, don’t get any item that does damage automatically to enemies close to you (will kill the enemies normally if you are to close) and be carefull with those bombs.
Mental Breakdown
Beat Mental
After returning the 32th key you get access to “Cerebral Gateway”. Go there and beat the final boss for this one. A good trick; Stay in the “shadow area” as much as possible (you will take no damage there and enemies disapper as soon as they enter the shadow), only get close to boss to deal damage. As soon as enemies seem to become to overwhelming, get back to shadow area. This way back and forth makes the final boss fight very easy.
Speedrun
Reach vault in short time.
You have to beat iteration #1 and reach vault in 12 minutes. Every time I tried to actually speedrun it I failed. I got this naturally after I got used to the game, gameplay, etc. You will automatically get faster. I recommend “Bulb” or “Bomb”.
Speedrun+
Reach V3 vault in 25 minutes
You have to beat iteration #3 and reach vault V3 in 25 minutes. Good luck with this one.
High Score
Reach high score
To activate this challenge, go here to this better hidden NPC. From him you will get all “high score” related challenges. When done with this one, return to him, talk again for next challenge. And so on until you have access / completed all highscore related challenges. Character independent, for this first one you need to score 1000. Can be easily done without moods.
Watt’s the score?
Reach high score with bomb
Needs to be done with “Bomb” character, this time you need to get 10000 points. Getting so many points without moods is hard, of course your choice. But if you have planned to go for “Higher score” and “Conquerer” you better get used to moods fast.
Higher score
Reach even higher score
Character independent, this time you need to get 30000 points. I recommend some moods to get the score multiplier up, your choice.
Conquerer
Score 500000 points
Character independent, this time you need to get 500000 points. Good luck with this one.
Demolition job
Survive getting hit by 30 bombs
I recommend that you try to get “Mushroom hunting”, “Liquid armor”, “Atomic Skin” & “Skin Peeler”, then you have a very good chance to get this one.
