“Looking to conquer all multiplayer achievements in Red Faction: Guerrilla Steam Edition on your own? Look no further! In this guide, we’ll show you how to tackle all achievements by yourself, with tips and tricks based on Sids guide and our own adjustments. Get ready to dominate the game solo!”
Prepping the Programs we will need:
Download and install the latest version of the Nucleus Co-op app:
https://github.com/SplitScreen-Me/splitscreenme-nucleus
Download and install a controller emulator that will allow you to emulate up to 6 controllers. The reason we need this is because the siege gamemode can only be played with 6 people.
For this I used DS4Windows:
https://ds4-windows.com/download/ryochan7-ds4windows/
Connect your controller to your PC and ensure it shows up within DS4Windows.
Navigate to the settings tab and ensure Hide DS4 Controller is ticked, you should see the X symbol change to a checkmark symbol in the controllers tab. Then, click edit on your controller, switch to the other tab and change the emulated controller drop down from Xbox 360 to DualShock 4.
Finally, navigate to the Output tab, select as many of the empty slots as you need and plug in a DS4 controller. NOTE: You will not be able to actually send input to these controllers, but we need windows to think they are plugged in to be able to launch multiple instances of the game with Nucleus.
Next launch the Nucleus Co-op app and click Search Game on the top, then Navigate to where your Red Faction Guerrilla exe is and select it to add it to Nucleus. NOTE: you need to add the one titled RFG, not rfg_launcher.
Then, click Download Game Handler and in the search box type Red Faction and the only one that will show up is Red Faction Guerrilla – Steam Edition by Talos91.
Download it and then navigate to your Nucleus app install location and open the handlers folder. Open the file with Notepad++ or any other text editor and its time to make some changes. The original handler is set up to work with Xinput controllers only, which unfortunately means you can only use a maximum of 4 controllers at once, so through a bit of trial and error, I was able to modify it and get it accepting Dinput also, which means we can play with as many as 8 players!
I recommend using a text editor that shows line numbers for this part as it will make it a lot easier.
Shown below is the line number as well as what you need to change it too
38. Game.Hook.DInputEnabled = true;
41. //Game.XInputPlusDll = [“xinput1_3.dll”];
92. //Game.Hook.CustomDllEnabled = true;
93. //Game.Hook.CustomDllEnabled = true;
102. //Game.Hook.CustomDllEnabled = true;
103. //Game.Hook.CustomDllEnabled = true;
Finally, add in the following line after Line 48:
Save the file and we are now ready to move on to launching the game.
Within Nucleus Co-op, select the game on the left hand side and you will get a screen like this:
Along the top is all the controllers detected and below is your monitors.You can click the square in the top right of each monitor to divide up the space on screen. Since I played with 8 people, I divided it up so 4 players were on each monitor, but you can have as many as 16 on one screen if you like.
Once you have the space divided up how you like drag the controllers into each space (do not assign keyboard to any of them). Note that holding a button on your real controller will cause it to be highlighted in yellow, this is important as we will need to know which Player number you are assigned. When you are done you should have it something like this:
Finally, there will be a green arrow in the top right pointing right, click it and then click Play and it will begin launching all the instances of the game. This will take a while so let it do its thing.
Once all the instances are loaded up you should be able to control just one of them with your controller. The others can all be controlled individually with the keyboard and mouse, since they were left unassigned. I’d recommend disabling audio on all but one of the instances to save your ears and changing the controller settings to use gamepad.
While you could jump in and start playing right now, there is one more thing that is important. Within the Nucleus app setup screen, there is a button that looks like this:
Click this and then Open UserProfile Save Path and then the player number assigned to your real controller and then open the remote folder. Once you are in here you can copy your actual player_options.rfgo_pc file from
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\[your user id]\20500\remote
to carry over any progress on multiplayer you may have made back in the day when it was still active. You can also copy your actual save files to another nucleus players remote folder to get the achievement for playing online with someone who has completed the campaign.
With all that done you are ready to start actually playing. Once you have made enough progress to get some achievements, you must copy the player_options.rfgo_pc from nucleus back to steam, then load your singleplayer file to get the achievements.
In the next section I will be going over how to actually start the matchmaking games and some general tips and extra resources for the achievements themselves.
Actually Playing The Game:
Now for some tips relating to specific achievements.
For the 250 matchmaking wins I would recommend doing Anarchy. Bagman is faster, but with anarchy games, the match will end when you get 20 kills. 250 games with 20 kills each will give you the exact number of kills you need for the 5000 kills achievement, so you can kill 2 birds with one stone.
For the Mad Genius and all its lesser variants, I would recommend following this great guide I found on the internet: https://www.trueachievements.com/a33287/mad-genius-achievement
Some of these hidden challenges are really easy to get, but some can be a real pain, especially the get 5xp from every bonus one. Thats the main reason you will need the second controller, as being able to control either an enemy or someone else on your team is a necessity for getting some of the bonuses. Make sure to check your stats page also to see how much xp you have gotten from every bonus. Once you have earned 56000 xp in total, you will have all bonuses unlocked.
Finally, for the 100k xp achievement, there isn’t much tips I can give other than brace yourself for a grind. I found that team anarchy yielded the best results when killing enemies with the sledgehammer. With all bonuses unlocked you can average 500 – 540xp per 5-10min game. Some maps are a lot better than others and if you have access to a Vision backpack I would highly recommend using it. You should have a decent dent of progress made for this one by winning 250 games, but there is still a fair chunk left to do.
Other than that, the rest of the achievements are fairly self explanatory so I won’t be going over them. This guide is long enough as it is.
Conclusion:
Hopefully this helped some folks out! And here is a link to the original guide that got me started on this hair brained scheme, so go show some love there too if it helped you!
