Fix
Fix: (Make sure the game isn’t running)
1. Right click the exe for the game (SOM.exe, it’s located where the game is installed).
2. Click Properties.
3. On the window that pops up click the Compatibility tab.
4. Click change high dpi settings at the bottom.
5. On the window that pops up check the override dpi scaling behavior box then make sure it says application.
6. Done
If that doesn’t work then try clicking the Change settings for all users button when on the compatibility tab then repeat steps 4-5 as I’ve had a case where I had to do that before. (I’m not sure what the process is for linux or mac).
You may encounter the ui at the top with all the menus (File, Operation, etc.) being either looking a bit off or being huge and unreadable. In that case set your Pc’s Resolution to 720p (In your computer settings, if you need help leave a comment.) then start the game and that should fix it.
If the fix is all your interested in then the guide ends here and thanks for reading. I hope I fixed your issue and I apologize if I couldn’t.
For anyone interested in me rambling, and a theory on why setting your pc to 720p fixes it then continue reading.. I would make this part a discussion instead of in this guide but I’d feel weird just saying how to fix the problem and that’s it with no explanation or details… So I’m including it here and did some testing.
This games weird.
For me this fixed
1. The game being zoomed in when using fullscreen
2. The text going off the bottom of the screen.
Now then… On to the weird part. In my personal experience this game
1. Changes your computers resolution as soon as you start it with steam.
2. It won’t let you change your computer’s resolution while the game is running as it is instantly changes it back to the resolution it put it to (even if changed I don’t think it would help any)
3. Even when you leave the game your resolution doesn’t change back so you have to set it again manually.
Also for whatever reason;
1. Without the fix as soon as you start the game it sets your pc to 720p when the game is started which is the windowed resolution of the game
2. With the fix as soon as you start the game it instead sets your pc to 1080p which is the fullscreen resolution of the game.
Both of those; The 720p and 1080p thing happens as soon as you launch the game no matter if the games in windowed or fullscreen. (I’m still confused how overriding dpi scaling changes which resolution the game decides to set your pc since the window res is still 720p and fullscreen res is 1080 no matter the dpi scaling.)
Now with the dpi scaling fix thing there is now a strange scaling issue with the Ui… depending on what resolution you start the game with.
1. If your pc is set to 4k res (3840 x 2160) when starting the game; it sets your pc to 1080p with the top ui part unreadable and massive.
2. If your pc is set to 1080p (1920 x 1080) when starting the game; your pc stays at 1080p and the top ui kind of normal.
3. If your pc is set to 720p (1280 x 720) when starting the game; it sets your pc to 1080p and the top ui is a tiny bit zoomed out but readable.
If anybody has a good technical answer for why this is happening, I’d be down to hear it. I’m assuming it has to do with how windows dpi scaling works… I just want to know why changing dpi scaling changes what resolution the game sets your pc as I’ve never seen that before.
Who knows I may be just hallucinating the whole thing. The reason I called this game weird is I’ve never had this kind of thing ever happen before even when I did the override scaling (Granted it’s usually override scaling by system and not application.) Also while I may have had a game change my desktop’s resolution before like this, there have been very few cases that I’ve experienced that type of behavior, even when playing older Vn’s.
Thanks to anybody who read this far. It’s currently 4am and I spent more time writing this “guide” then actually playing the game. I just hope at least somebody enjoyed my ramblings or that I helped someone out. Again thanks for reading and goodnight.
