Welcome to our guide for Away: The Survival Series! In this article, we will be providing you with a comprehensive achievement guide for the game. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced player, this guide will help you navigate through the game and unlock all the achievements. So without further ado, let’s get started!
Introduction
The game itself is pretty janky and full of bugs, both insects and glitches. You will miss Assassin’s Creed smooth parkour controls when playing this. It feels ok at the beginning but when you start running more in trees it can get annoying pretty fast. It’s not all bad though – The game is pretty occasionally and the main character is cute. Running around as an animal is pretty refreshing.
There are both Story mode and Exploration Mode. We want to play mostly in Story Mode but will get two achievements in Exploration Mode. In Story Mode you play as a sugar glider. In Exploration Mode you play as a pollen. Yeah, you read that right.
TW: There are two scenes where you need to escape or avoid quite big spiders. You will fight small spiders a lot.
First Story Playthrough
The story is very linear and will take you about 3-4 hours. There are few ‘boss’ battles where you need to dodge so if you’re not good at those it can take a bit longer. The quick time event cutscenes are very lenient.
While you’re playing the story there’s only few things to be aware of.
- You need to eat 100 raspberries. They are the only red berries on the ground.
- You need to eat lots of red mushrooms. They are easy to spot and refresh your red stamina meter.
- You need to eat lots of yellow mushrooms. They look like yellow sticks. They won’t appear in the beginning. They refresh your yellow gliding meter.
- You need to kill many spiders and eat 10.
- You need to hunt and kill 10 lizards.
- If you hear a faint beeping noise you are close to collectible hologram. We need to find all of them but after you complete the story you will get a map that reveals all the locations. So it’s easier after the story. Then again if you hear something while playing you might as well get it now. They are almost always close or in something human made. While playing the story I found 6 holograms and I didn’t really go my way to hunt those.
How many mushrooms you need to eat or spiders to kill? Open your map menu and see progression tab. See the red and yellow skill trees. All of the skills have a requirement before they are unlocked. You want to unlock all red and yellow skills while playing the story with the exception of yellow Dragonfly skill which we will unlock after story is done. Blue skills are also unlocked after the story.
You will get these achievements while playing through the story. Enjoy your trip!
Fast Learner – Story. Unmissable.
Poison Addict – Eat 10 Spiders
Cave Explorer – Story. Unmissable.
Master Hunter – Hunt 10 lizards
Floating Leaves – Story. Unmissable.
Master Warrior – Story. Unmissable.
Into the Deep – Story. Unmissable.
Glutton – Eat 100 raspberries
Master Adventurer – Story. Unmissable. This unlocked for me before finding the last nest. Enter the last nest for end credits.
Mopping Up After Story
Now we get all the collectibles and finish our skills and do the side quests and a few misc achievements.
We will start with the side quests first. While doing these grab the nearby collectibles too. Go to those blue flower patches. Under them is a nest that can be used for fast travel. Zoom your map in and check the west side where it says ‘Dragonfly Race’. Go there.
Dragonfly Race
We will repeat this race a lot. You need to finish it once for the side quest completion mark but there is an achievement for doing barrel rolls. You need to do 20 barrel rolls which means you need to aim for a tree while gliding and just before the tree hit the dodge button. Even though the achievement says ‘Achieved all the stunts’ it means you need to do 20 glide dodges and only those that have the barrel roll animation will count.
Stunt Glider – Do total of 20 glide dodges just before hitting a tree.
Next is Spirit Hunt side quest
Spirit Hunt
Just mash hunt the purple lizard. Nothing fancy here. Afterwards go to the Bunker
Bunker
We will learn about possession skill here. Once you start ignore the 3 blue mushroom quest text and climb the first tree with the glowing mushrooms. Then jump to the container island and climb the tree next to the container. Then follow the pulsing blue light and you should find yourself near a bunker that has few blue mushrooms around it. Eat 3 and then possess the cockroach and use the cockroach to enter the bunker to grab the hologram. Afterwards go to Second Bunker.
Second Bunker
Climb until you can go to those blue power lines and then up the wind mill hit the branch few times to scare to vulture away. Don’t use the power lines to walk but glide to the water and climb the tree and you should just about be able to glide to the next ridge and the bunker.
Globetrotter – All four sidequests done
Let’s go somewhere high now. Go to Eagle Creek Bunker nest in West Creek Park. Straight ahead there is a tree branch. Use the tree to climb the wall and then again climb the tree and you should get the Mountaineer achievement.
Mountaineer – Reach the highest point of the map
Now it is time to finish grabbing all the collectibles. Remember that they are always on or in a human made construct. Some of the map locations are off a bit so go towards buildings instead of those exact map marker coordinates.
Halfway Through – Find half of the holograms
Desousa – Hologram: Collect all the Desousa Podcast
Apwete Manduski – Hologram: Discover all the Apwete Manduski artifacts
BoilUp – Hologram: Discover all the BoilUp artifacts
Detective – Discover all the Holograms
If you haven’t yet the last thing is to get all the skills. If you are only missing blue berries or mushrooms just run along the Sanctuary Beach and use your intuition every now and then to scan blue stuff.
Skills Master – Unlock all the skill tree. Red and Yellow (one skill missing) skill trees can be unlocked while playing the story. Blue can be unlocked after the story.
Exploration Mode
Let’s start with the snail one. Fly around Sanctuary Beach and try to find a snail. Then possess it and choose a direction and wait until the achievement unlocks. I watched some YT while doing it.
Slow Achiever – Crawl 10 meters as a snail.
Next up are the rare possessions. There are some sure spawns but occasionally you will see rare animals somewhere else too. I will go from the East towards the West. Note that if you don’t see the animal it might’ve died already. Go away a bit and come back and it should respawn. Spiders sometimes kill the rare spawns before you can possess them.
Use your intuition to highlight small animals.
Black Scorpion
On top of the building in the very North East corner.
Red Spider
Under the tail end of a crashed airplane, just sitting there.
Black-Green Bug
Inside the Geo Globe, on top of the building near a hole.
Purple Frog
Hopping around near the fences and the building here.
Purple Mantis
Near the rusted antenna array.
Beige Horned Bug and Green Grasshopper
Two animals here under the waterfall near the cave. The spider will often kill one or the other
Green Gecko and Yellow-Black Dotted Beetle
Two animals again. The gecko is near the tree and the beetle is nearer to water. Spiders kill them often.
Ugly Fly
This bloated fly is on the road close to the blue flower patch on a ridge nearest to the monorail
You should now be the proud owner of the Soul Rider achievement – rarest of them all in Away: Survivor Series.
Soul Rider – Possess all the ten rare creatures in Exploration
Congratulations!
Story again on easy
Master Explorer – Finish the story again on Easy mode
